CHECKOUT EVIDENCE, MADE READABLE

Put it to work
in your store.

One practical starting point. Adapt the example to your products and your store’s settings.

  1. A customer selects Place order

Checkout Watcher begins observing the submission and follows available browser, validation, server, and payment events in the same attempt.

  2. Find the reason checkout stopped

For a missing postcode, the record can show the validation reason and the stage where it appeared. Open the timeline to see the events around that failure.

  3. Separate the order from the payment

If WooCommerce creates an order before a gateway declines payment, the timeline records both stages. An existing order is not mistaken for a successful payment.

Investigate a validation problem

Identify recorded missing fields, invalid addresses, unchecked terms, unavailable shipping, or payment-selection errors without guessing from a generic complaint.

Follow an interrupted checkout

Inspect available timeout, network, script-error, or unfinished-exit evidence and the last stage that was confirmed.

Keep diagnostics manageable

Filter attempts, inspect an individual timeline, and choose retention and storage limits. Optional redacted copies of terminal failures can appear in WooCommerce logs.

MADE FOR THE WAY YOU SELL

Follow the evidence to the next useful step.

Understand the last confirmed stage of a checkout attempt without confusing an order record with successful payment. Readable explanations sit alongside the recorded technical events.

Requires WordPress 6.5+, PHP 8.1+, and WooCommerce 8.2+. It observes standard Classic or Block checkout flows without changing checkout rules or responses.

Before you get started

Works with
WordPress 6.5+, WooCommerce 8.2+, and PHP 8.1+.
Checkout coverage
Standard Classic Checkout, Checkout Blocks, Store API events, and pay-for-order retries.
Observation
It records evidence without changing prices, validation rules, gateways, or checkout responses.
Evidence limits
A generic bank decline or a failure before WordPress starts may expose no exact cause. The timeline reports the last confirmed stage.
Data handling
Avoids card data, passwords, full addresses, raw checkout bodies, payment tokens, cookies, and raw IP addresses.
License
An active subscription enables checkout diagnostics, collection, and CSV export. If access ends, checkout keeps working normally, and privacy, deletion, and retention controls stay available.

Requirements and supported integrations, all in one place.

For the demonstrated build: 0.2.5.

Minimum requirements

WordPress
6.5+
WooCommerce
8.2+
PHP
8.1+

Tested with WordPress 7.0.4 and WooCommerce 11.0.

Supported technology

  • Classic Checkout and Checkout BlocksPlace order attempts from both checkout experiences, including Store API requests and pay-for-order submissions.
  • Payment gatewaysGateway results are recorded beside the order stages, so a created order is not mistaken for a successful payment.
  • HPOS and legacy ordersDeclared compatible with WooCommerce High-Performance Order Storage and the legacy order tables.
  • WooCommerce logsOptional redacted copies of terminal failures can be written to the WooCommerce log.

A generic bank decline, a server rejection before WordPress runs, or an off-site payment abandoned without a provider callback may expose no specific cause. The timeline then names the last confirmed stage.

A third-party checkout that bypasses WooCommerce forms, the Store API, and order hooks cannot be observed.

Full changelog
Version 0.2.6Release

Added

  • Shows the UFP Checkout Watcher icon on the WordPress Updates screen and in update details.
Version 0.2.5Release

Fixed

  • License status stays correct after a temporary storage failure, and deactivation now reports an error when local license data could not be removed.
Version 0.2.4Release

Fixed

  • Checkout diagnostics record what happens in the shopper's browser again, such as a payment form error or a click on Place order. These events were rejected, so attempt timelines showed only server-side evidence.

BEFORE YOU GET STARTED

A little more
clarity.

Can it explain every payment decline?
It explains the evidence that is available. If a bank or gateway returns only a generic decline, or a failure never reaches the browser or WordPress, it reports the last confirmed stage rather than inventing a cause.
Does it change the checkout process?
It observes standard checkout events. It does not change product prices, validation rules, payment gateways, or checkout responses.
Does it store payment-card details?
No. It avoids card data, passwords, raw checkout bodies, full addresses, payment tokens, cookies, and raw IP addresses. Optional guest identification uses a masked display and salted hash.
Is it an abandoned-cart email tool?
Its purpose is checkout diagnostics. NewsLetter is the separate product with consent-based cart-recovery automation.
