Returning customers often type the same addresses again and again. One order goes to their home, the next goes to their office, and one typo can send a parcel to the wrong door. If you are looking into WooCommerce multiple addresses, what most stores need is a private address book: customers save each address once and pick the right one when they order.
By the end of this guide, you will have a custom field in your checkout and saved-address forms, a named address saved in a customer’s My Account, and that address chosen at checkout. You will also know which settings control who can use the address book and how it looks. One thing to know up front: each order still uses one billing address and one shipping address. This is an address book, not a way to split one order across several destinations.
What you need
- WordPress 6.5 or later, WooCommerce 8.2 or later, and PHP 8.1 or later.
- The Multiple Client Addresses & Checkout Field Editor plugin with an active license.
- A customer account to test with. Saved address books are for signed-in customers; guests keep the normal WooCommerce checkout.
Step 1: Install the plugin and activate your license
Install and activate the plugin while WooCommerce is active. Then open UFP → Multiple Addresses → License and activate your license key. The address book and the checkout field editor need current license access. Your native WooCommerce checkout keeps working either way.
Step 2: Add a custom field to your address forms
Go to UFP → Checkout fields. You can also reach it from the Checkout fields tab under UFP → Multiple Addresses. First pick the Checkout type your store uses, Classic Checkout or Block Checkout. Each one keeps its own field configuration.
Under Quick add field, choose a field type and select Add field. In the new field card, fill in:
- Key: the machine name saved with addresses and orders, such as
address_reference. It is locked once the field is published, so choose it with care. - Label: the name customers see, such as “Address reference”.
- Placeholder: a short hint that guides customers as they type.
Drag the card to the place where the field should appear in the form, or use its move buttons. Then select Save checkout fields. Saved-address forms use the same field configuration as checkout, so the new field shows up in both places.
Step 3: Save a named address in My Account
Now look at it from the customer’s side. Sign in as a customer and open My Account → Addresses. The plugin turns that page into an address book. If you renamed it with the My Account menu label setting, look for your label instead.
Select Add address and fill in the form:
- Address nickname: a name that is easy to recognize on a future visit, such as Home or Office.
- Use this address for: check Billing, Shipping, or both. One saved address can serve both purposes.
- The name, country, street, city, and postcode, plus the custom field you just added.
If you like, check Use as my default billing address or Use as my default shipping address. Then select Save address. The new address card is now in the address book, ready for the next order.
Step 4: Choose a saved address at checkout
Add a product to the cart and go to checkout. Next to the address fields, the customer sees a short summary of the saved address in use. Select Change (or Select, if none is chosen yet) to open the picker. Find the Office card and select Use this address.
The plugin fills the checkout fields with that address, and the custom field value comes with it. Once a customer has more than five saved addresses, a search box appears, so they can find an address by nickname, person, company, city, or postcode.
Step 5: Decide who can use the address book
Open UFP → Multiple Addresses and stay on the Address book tab. The main settings are:
- Enable the address book: turns the feature on or off. Native WooCommerce address fields stay available when it is off.
- Checkout address types: shows saved-address pickers for Billing addresses, Shipping addresses, or both.
- Eligible customer roles: leave every role unselected to allow all signed-in customers.
- Maximum saved addresses: from 1 to 100 per customer. The default is 20.
- Checkout controls: lets customers add, edit, delete, and select addresses at checkout, only add and select, only select, or hides the picker at checkout.
The same tab sets the Search threshold, the Address order, and the Shipping picker locations for Classic Checkout and Checkout Blocks. Select Save address-book settings when you are done.
Step 6: Match the address cards to your store
On the Appearance tab, choose a Presentation (Cards, Compact, or Minimal) and a Density. You can adjust the accent, card background, card text, and card border colors, plus the Corner radius. The live preview checks text contrast, and a color combination that is hard to read cannot be saved. Select Save appearance to finish.
Good to know
- One destination per order. Each order uses one billing address and one shipping address. The plugin does not split an order between several shipping addresses.
- Guests keep the normal checkout. Only signed-in customers get an address book. Fields you build in the checkout field editor still apply to the checkout form itself.
- Past orders stay as they were. The selected address and custom values are stored with each order. Editing a saved address later does not change earlier orders.
- The field editor covers address fields. Order-only questions, file uploads, and fee rules are outside its scope, and country and other locale-critical fields stay required.
- If license access ends, WooCommerce’s native checkout keeps working and saved addresses are kept.
Frequently asked questions
Can one order ship to several addresses?
No. The plugin lets a customer choose one billing address and one shipping address for each order. Splitting items between several shipping destinations changes shipping packages, rates, and fulfillment, and it is outside the plugin’s scope. A customer who needs two destinations can place a separate order for each, choosing a different saved address each time.
Does it work with Checkout Blocks?
Yes. Address selection and the field editor work in both Classic Checkout and Checkout Blocks. Each checkout type has its own field settings, so saving one does not change the other. The address forms in My Account follow the configuration of your assigned Checkout page.
Can I show different fields to companies and individuals?
Yes. In the field editor, select Add client selector to offer an Individual or Company choice. You can then show eligible fields to all clients, only individuals, or only companies, such as a company name or a business reference. Client-specific fields belong to billing, and saved-address forms follow the same rules as checkout.
Do custom field values appear in order emails?
Yes. Values appear inside the matching billing or shipping address section of WooCommerce HTML and plain-text emails, on the thank-you page, and in the customer’s order details. They are also saved as normal order metadata under the field’s key, so order integrations can read them.
