Most stores have customers who come back, but nothing that tells those customers their loyalty counts. WooCommerce loyalty points give them something they can see: they earn points on eligible orders, watch their balance grow, and spend it as a discount on a later purchase.
This guide sets up Client Fidelity & Rewards from the start. By the end, you will have chosen who takes part, set what a point is worth, capped how much one order can redeem, adjusted a customer’s balance, and checked the full journey from the product page to the cart.
What you need
- WordPress 6.4 or newer, WooCommerce 8.7 or newer, and PHP 8.1 or newer.
- Client Fidelity & Rewards, with an active license. New earning and redemption need current license access.
- A single-site WordPress install with a supported MySQL or MariaDB database. Multisite is not supported.
- A SendGrid account if you want the automatic tier-promotion and point-expiry emails. They are skipped while SendGrid delivery is off.
- A backup, and ideally a staging copy where you can test an order, a cancellation and a refund before going live.
Step 1: Choose who takes part
Open UFP → Client Fidelity and Rewards and go to Settings → General. Under Eligible user roles, select the roles that can earn, view and redeem points, usually Customer.
Since version 0.21.5, a fresh installation selects Customer and Administrator. A store installed before that keeps its saved choice, which started as Administrator only, so check that Customer is selected there. Leaving every role unchecked turns rewards off for everyone without deleting balances or history.
Step 2: Set the point value and redemption limits
On the same screen, decide what a point is worth and how it can be spent:
- Points required per currency unit sets the value. In the video, 100 points equal one euro.
- Minimum redemption is the fewest points a customer can use in one order.
- Minimum product total for redemption is the order minimum. It counts products before coupons, including product tax, but not shipping or fees.
- Maximum order discount (%) caps the points discount as a share of the merchandise total. The video uses 10%.
- Award points when order is can be Processing or Completed. Completed is the default and the safer choice: points become spendable only once the order is fulfilled.
Click Save general settings.
Step 3: Set your tiers
Earning rates come from tiers. Open Settings → Tiers and give each tier a Name, a Lifetime threshold, a Reward rate (%) and a Point validity (days). A customer enters the highest tier their lifetime spending has reached, so keep the first threshold at zero.
Points earned equal the eligible product amount times the reward rate, converted at your points-per-currency value. With a 1% rate and 100 points per euro, a 50 euro purchase earns 50 points. Click Save tiers.
Step 4: Adjust a customer’s balance
Go to the Dashboard tab. Under Find a customer account, search by username, email or user ID, then open the matching account. Enter a Signed points adjustment, such as +1000 or -50, a Validity of credited points (days), and a Reason. Then click Post adjustment.
The adjustment is posted to the ledger, and the balance and history show the same credit. Customers see the reason in their rewards history, so write it in your storefront language and keep internal notes out of it.
Step 5: Check what the customer sees
Customers find the program under My Rewards in My Account. It shows their available points, their current value and their tier, with a rewards history that lists each change and its reason. Points from orders that have not reached the award status yet appear as Points awaiting award. Lifetime spending and tier progress stay separate from the points they can spend today.
Step 6: Show points on product pages
Open the Product Page tab and turn on Show the product-page estimate. The estimate follows the quantity a shopper selects: in the video, two bottles show 50 points.
There are separate messages for signed-in customers and guests. Choose a Placement, such as After product price, check the live preview, and click Save product-page estimate.
Step 7: Redeem points in the cart
In the cart or at checkout, a signed-in customer enters the Points to redeem and clicks Apply points. In the video, 500 points take five euros off a 50 euro cart. Apply all points uses as much of the balance as your limits allow, and Remove restores the original total.
The control works in both Classic and Blocks carts and checkouts. You can hide it in either place on the General settings screen.
Good to know
- Points belong to customer accounts. Only signed-in customers with an eligible role earn, view or redeem them.
- WooCommerce keeps control of product prices and order totals. A redemption appears as a scoped discount coupon on the order.
- Cancellations and refunds are recorded in the same ledger, for example as reversed earned points or restored redeemed points.
- The only automatic emails are tier promotion and upcoming point expiry. Marketing campaigns are not part of this plugin.
- If you change your store currency later, use Settings → Currency to preview and confirm the new point value.
Frequently asked questions
When do customers receive their points?
When the order reaches the status you chose in Award points when order is: Completed by default, or Processing. The product page shows an estimate before purchase, and the order itself determines the final award.
Can customers earn bonus points for reviews or signing up?
Yes. The Bonus Points tab has a review bonus for approved product reviews and an account-creation bonus, each with its own points and validity. Point Rules and Product & Category bonus give you more control over earning. If you also use Review Your Purchases, its reminders can show eligible Client Rewards points.
Can I bring over points from my previous loyalty plugin?
Yes. The Dashboard can import a CSV file with an email, points header. You review the results first, and nothing changes until you confirm. Imported points are added to current balances rather than replacing them.
Do points expire?
Only if you want them to. Tiers, bonuses, imports and manual adjustments each have a validity period in days, and 0 means the points never expire. With SendGrid delivery on, customers get a reminder email before their points expire.
